Latest Wales v Portugal Betting Odds

So who saw this coming? We have the Latest Wales v Portugal Betting Odds for you and I didn’t think I’d be saying that in a million years. Not in the semi-finals of the European Championships anyway!

For Wales this is an absolute dream. The one-man team who haven’t been in a major tournament for 58 years have shamed many big footballing nations by getting this far. Of course the biggest shamed country is England, who actually beat Wales along the way. Wales face Portugal who haven’t won a game in 90 minutes of football yet despite playing 5 games and being in the semi-finals.

What Do I Need To Know?

Well each team has had a very different route to the semi-finals, but neither team were expected to get here at all. Portugal are perceived as a weak team that has just one decent player in Ronaldo. For Wales it’s much the same, with quality being seen as poor amongst the squad apart from the talisman, Gareth Bale.

baleWales started the tournament with a very late winner against Slovakia before losing in injury time against England. The defensive performance in that game showed little indication of what was to come. They destroyed Russia 3-0 and then overcame Northern Ireland in a tense and edgy game in the first knockout stage.

The win against Belgium though was huge. A 3-1 deserved victory was recorded, although some could say that they got their luck along the way. Belgium should have had a penalty when 2-1 down, and Wales should have had Ben Davies sent off for two yellow cards. No matter though; you make your own luck I guess. Portugal will feel that they’ll get their chances to score though.

Portugal have, bizarrely, not won a game in 90 minutes yet. Consecutive draws against Iceland, Hungary and Austria saw them sneak through as lucky third place qualifiers. They then snuck through against the decent Croatian team before knocking Poland out on penalties after another turgid performance. The consistent part of this though has been that Ronaldo has been awful. He scored twice against Hungary but apart from that he’s missed vital penalties and chances to win matches.

Who Are Each Team Missing?

Latest Poland v Portugal Odds Enhanced OddsThis could be huge. Although Portugal will be missing William Carvalho from their side due to suspension Wales will be missing two hugely important players. Their best player to date, Aaron Ramsey, picked up a needless yellow card for handball against Belgium. One of their best defenders, Ben Davies also got a yellow for chopping someone down against Belgium.

Whilst Ramsey can be replaced with another midfielder that will try and replicate the job he does, Davies could be harder to replace. Wales will possibly bring in a new centre back and move a central man out wide, and that will be a shame in terms of breaking up a solid defence to date.

Who Will Win?

I am hoping that, like most teams, Portugal will underestimate their Welsh opponents. If they do so, Wales will have a chance to counter-attack as they did against the much-fancied Belgians. Although saying that, Aaron Ramsey will be missing so they might not be as effective.

I think that Portugal will try and be solid and look to Ronaldo to take them into the final. This might be the end of the road for the Welsh unfortunately. With two key players not being available and Ronaldo having at some point to fire in from 40 yards (he’s tried a lot) I think they might sneak it. I predict they’ll win 1-0.
